Celebrities In The Sport World.

Posted by

I don’t know what it is about Celebrities and sports teams. Many well known figures has purchased part or all of sports teams and lent their names, time, and money to ensure their success. Gene Autry owned the San Diego Padres for thirty eight years. Bob Hope owned part of the Cleveland Indians, and Ted Turner still owns the Atlanta Braves. Paul Newman owned part of Newman/Haas Racing, David Letterman owns part of the IRL racing team, and Burt Reynolds owned part of a NASCAR team as well as the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL League. The modern Celebrity has been even more prolific in the purchase in part or all of sports teams. Bill Murray, and Nick Lachey, are involved with minor league baseball teams. Elton John and LeBron James are involved with English soccer clubs. NBA teams boast Michael Jordan, (Bobcats), Jay-Z (Nets), Will Smith (Sixers), Usher (Cavs), and Justin Timberlake (Grizzlies), as being involved financially with their organizations. Major League Baseball is not to be left out as George W Bush (Rangers), Bill Maher (Mets), and Magic Johnson (Dodgers), have all been involved. The Miami Dolphins are not alone in celebrity participation but seem to have accumulated the most names. Jennifer Lopez, Mark Anthony, Serena and Venus Williams, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, and Gloria Estefan have all bought in. Russell Crowe is the primary partner in the Australian Rugby League club, South Sydney Rabbitohs, and now he is considering taking control of one the great historic English soccer clubs, Leeds United. Currently Leeds are far from their best but during the 1960’s – 1970’s they were busy accumulating three first division titles, an FA Cup, and a League Cup. Currently playing in the Championship League an infusion of money is needed to push them on to the English Premier League. They are hoping Russell Crowe will provide the “necessary” to make that happen.
