Giancarlo Stanton signed a record $325 million 13-year contract.

Miami Marlins’ owner, Jeffrey Loria, affirmed a 13-year deal with current Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton. The agreement is touted as the most lucrative for a North American athlete, and the longest in baseball history. Giancarlo Stanton says all the correct things. Commitment to the future, the Marlins wish to build a winning franchise, a long term winner. Stanton led the National League with thirty seven home runs last season. He managed to parley thahose statistics into a long term deal with a no trades clause and his ability to opt out after six years. Most of the money is due in the later stages of the contract. A concession to the Miami Marlins endeavor to surround him with quality players and having the money to do so. The first mega Baseball contract I remember was a Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Kevin Brown in 1998, who signed for over one hundred million dollars. I knew who he was. The A-Rod, Texas Rangers, 2001, 252 Million dollar deal was the next I remember. I knew who he was. Now it is Giancarlo Stanton’s turn to wear the anvil of expectations around his neck. Big contracts do not bring the expected success. Brown had one 18 game win year, the rest of his career. A-Rod had two years of fifty or more Home Runs since 2001. Pujols has not achieved with the Padres the Home runs he hit with Saint Louis Cardinals since his big money move three years ago. I wish nothing but success for Loria and Stanton. Maybe the New Miami Stadium will become the “House that Giancarlo Built”
