Mike Krzyzewski Wins his 1000th Game.

Posted by

Mike Krzyzewski became the first Division One, Men’s College Basketball Coach to reach the one thousand in mark this weekend when the Duke Blue Devils finally overcame a scrappy St John’s 77-68 at “The Garden”. Quite an achievement. Especially since the majority of his wins came at a school known for its Academia, rather than sports prowess. Tutored by another Legend, Bobby Knight, he learned all he needed to be successful. Thankfully h missed the chair throwing class. Four National Titles, Two Olympic Gold Medals are just the tip of the iceberg of success. His greatest success was the ability to great scholars who played basketball, and turn them into very competent basketball players, who performed as a team and never really had the NBA success that other NCAA Programs achieved. You committed to Duke for four years. To Coach K the education you received was more important than success in the Basketball Arena. It wasn’t until 1999 that a player left before his eligibility was up. Elton Brand, left after his Sophomore year and William Avery, a Junior, and freshman Corey Maggette followed suit. Duke Basketball has had seventy-one players go on to the NBA and only one Sean Battier with the Miami Heat has ever held the the NBA Championship trophy as a winner. Mike Krzyzewski, is a coach, a husband, a father and a good guy. Dedicated to success, with high expectations. When Christian Laettner hit the jumper at the buzzer to beat Kentucky, he even showed with the right coaching “White Men can Jump”
