Norman Rockwell Being Sold At Christie's Auction May 22 Pre-Sale of 20 Million.

Posted by

A Norman Rockwell painting "The Rookie" is up for auction at  Christie's. Featuring Boston Red Sox players in the Red Sox locker room, it points out the fading history of our past. In an era when the young believe Apple invented the Tablet, and Al Gore invented the Internet, they may, if they are  baseball fans recognize one name associated with this painting. Norman Rockwell's illustrations graced the cover of the Saturday Evening Post weekly magazine for over forty years. Each week, a peek at his snapshot of American life, made us smile, laugh and sometimes tugged our heartstrings. This Painting was used on the cover of the March 2nd 1957 issue. It shows Boston Red Sox right fielder Jackie Jensen, Catcher Sammy White, Center Fielder Ted Williams, and Second Baseman Billy Goodman. Hopefully you know which later a Baseball Hall Of Fame Member became. Hopefully you know how popular Norman Rockwell was. Hopefully you know just how great a man Ted Williams was. The painting is expected to fetch up to thirty million dollars. Hopefully whoever buys it will know its significance, its true historical value. Hopefully they will not "add it to my portfolio"
