Warrior For Freedom, Veterans Day Special

“Veterans Day” is observed World Wide in some form or another. The dates and names may differ but the day is set aside to honor those who have served, and to remember those who have fallen. November 11th was chosen here in the United States as it coincides with the British tradition of remembering the day in 1918 when on the 11th Hour of the 11th month of 1918 the Armistice with Germany went into effect. In 1954 President Dwight D Eisenhower signed a law renaming the day as Veterans Day to remember those who had served in all conflicts and not just the 1914-18 “Great War. Canada remembers their Veterans on Remembrance Day. Australia also has the same tradition. New Zealand’s National Day of remembrance is April 25th. In France and Belgium a national holiday is Observed for the occasion. Germany however does not celebrate the Armistice as the date November 11th, marks the beginning of a traditional German Carnival. They use the closest Sunday to that date. Many families can count the generations that have served, while others honor those who have. It is a day like today, where we give thanks, where we are appreciative, and where we are grateful for all veterans, who chose to defend those, who cannot defend themselves.
